Stomach Problems and Medications: The Number #1 Prescription Drug Used in America
Stomach Acid Reducers: #1 Prescribed Medication
Stomach acid reducers are among the top prescribed medication in the U.S. today. They can be very effective, however they are not designed to be used long term.
This is a good time of year to come to the clinic. At the clinic, we test for reactions to items in the air and also have patients bring in water samples to see if there are additional allergens to which you may be having a reaction.
Stress can cause Stomach Issues
When a person is stressed the body does not regenerate the tissues like it is supposed to when not under long term stress. The stomach lining is the first tissue not to be regenerated. This is one reason that stomach reducers are among the top prescribed medications.
If you, or anyone you know, is uncomfortable in taking pharmaceu-tical medications or is looking for other health options besides medications, the clinic would love to talk with you. We believe in the benefits of medications, however, it is also the belief of this clinic that correcting functional imbalances with nutritional formulas specific to the existing imbalance can also be part of the health program. This is called integrated or functional medicine.
Stomach Acid is needed for Protein and Mineral Absorption
Stomach acid is needed to break down protein, calcium and other minerals. Just because you take a mineral supplement does not mean that your body is absorbing it. Around the age of 50 the body starts to produce less stomach acid and needs to be supplemented with stomach acid and a good digestive formula. The clinic has a very good supplement that has helped many patients with digestion.
For women, long term use of stomach acid reducers may interfere with calcium absorption and can be a concern with osteoporosis. As European countries look at decreasing chemicals and pesticides in food, the U.S. is continually increasing chemicals in our food. These chemicals can be strong mineral chelators, which means that they bind with minerals in the muscles, nerves and other organs of the body and do not allow the body use them. Mineral deficiencies, especially muscles and nerves, are very commonly treated in the clinic.
When on Stomach Acid Reducers
Many patients are on these medications. The clinic will first address food reactions that the patient may have while on these medications. The next step is to heal the lining of the stomach.
Again when under stress as mentioned above, the body does not rejuvenate the inner lining of the stomach and intestines as it should. The clinic has very good nutritional formulas that help heal the gut lining. When patients stop the stomach acid reducers, a burning sensation may occur. Healing the inner lining of the gut first has resolved this issues with many patients.
Some patients may have a slight hernia, where the stomach rides up past the diaphragm. In many cases this can be corrected with an manual therapy maneuver which can be taught to the patient.
One patient with an acid reflux issue liked to eat spicy foods and drink alcohol. We were able to identify and address his foods reactions. The acid reflux issue resolved and he was no longer restricted in his food and alcohol intake.
