Anxiety – A Hormonal or Mental Health Issue?

This question refers to women with anxiety.  A patient in her mid-forties came to the office with moodiness and anxiety. Her M.D. wanted to prescribe an anti-anxiety medication for her anxiety.  She was starting perimenopause and thought that it was a hormonal issue.  She did not want to go on anti-anxiety medications due to its side effects and its potential to become addictive.

We did natural, holistic treatments for anxiety.  We addressed her hormonal system and nervous systems. Several specific nutritional formulas were used to help regulate the imbalances that were present in her system.  Her anxiety diminished and it confirmed her belief that she did not have to go on anti-anxiety medications for her anxiety.

I have had many women after we regulate the hormonal and nervous systems, feel so much better.  Several women felt remorseful about the way they treated their partners while suffering hormonal imbalances.  They are very happy to get back to being themselves again.

Perimenopause or Menopause

This is a common time for symptoms of anxiety as hormones start to shift and change.  Adrenal function is a big part of transitioning from having a cycle to not having a cycle.  The adrenals help with stress, toxins, energy, and temperature changes.  In our society, the adrenals are challenged beyond their capacity in many cases with toxins, processed foods, stress, and a busy lifestyle. Having adrenal function depleted makes the transition to menopause more difficult and more symptomatic.

Nervous System Over Stimulated

It is very common these days to have patients with overstimulated nervous systems. Usually, they have anxiety and/or depression, an overactive mind especially at night, and sometimes have the propensity to be very talkative.  About 50% of patients come in with this issue.  This is usually easy to resolve and may take about 2-4 weeks to address.  Many patients tell me that they have the same amount of stress, but are able to manage the stress much better after getting out of the overstimulated mode.

One patient, going home for the holidays to the east coast, usually has to take some sort of supplement in order to be around her relatives.  The clinic gave her a sample of Health Resolutions Brain Formula in order to help balance her nervous system during the trip.  She reported that it took the edge off of being with her relatives and she did not emotionally react to her relatives as much as she usually does.  This allowed her to actually have a better and deeper interaction with her relatives during the visit and she was very grateful for this.

Addressing an overstimulated nervous system can have a big impact on a person’s life for the better.  If you have trouble relaxing, getting to sleep at night, or are a chronic worrier, call the office.  We can discuss your health challenges and see if we can help.
