3 Reasons for Brain Fog (and sometimes low motivation)

I have seen many patients where their brain fog has come and then resolved. One patient had a water leak in her garage and immediately started getting brain fog because of mold. We addressed the issue right away, and the brain fog went away.
Brain fog and low motivation can be frustrating when there are many things that need to be done. The clinic has been working very successfully in resolving brain fog for over 20 years.
Here are the 3 reasons for brain fog:
- Mold Exposure
- Sensitivities and reactions to food and other substances
- Imbalance in hormones
1. Mold exposure
The mycotoxins that are released from molds are proteins that can accumulate in the body. Typically, one person in the family gets rather strange neurological symptoms such as memory loss, brain fog, word recognition problems, mood swings, joint pain, headaches, and burning pain. Other symptoms of mold exposure is sinus and lung issues.
The ability to get the mold toxins out of the body determines if a person becomes symptomatic to the mold toxins. This is why it is very common for one person in the family to be affected and everyone else in the family to have no symptoms. Resolving the accumulation of mold toxins in the body is what needs to happen in this case and has helped many people to be able to focus better and feel like themselves again.
2. Sensitivities to foods and other substances
This can be a confusing topic because the traditional testing for food sensitivities are typically not accurate. A food allergy is an IgE response and is different than a food sensitivity response. The blood and scratch test are accurate for food allergies, but not for food sensitivities – which do not have a IgE response. In our clinic, we use a test that is a good assessment for food sensitivities.
In the book An Alternative Approach to Allergies by Dr. Theron Randolph, MD, he talks about the how food allergies or sensitivity act like addictions as well. In other words, you tend to crave the foods that you react to.
Each food or substance reaction can cause many different symptoms in the body. One of the symptoms can be brain fog. One of my first patients told me that I would have to address her mold reactions first, so that she could understand and listen to what I was telling her. We did that and she was able to focus and understand the treatment process much better after addressing the mold reaction.
3. Imbalance in hormones
There is a certain ratio of hormones that makes women feel their best. Even with women who have a cycle, I am seeing hormonal imbalances that are causing health symptoms. These symptoms are typically hormonal headaches, brain fog, and low motivation.
Many times in my clinic, when the hormones are balanced, the clarity and motivation levels go up. A chemical in the environment or foods is causing this in many of my female patients of all ages. Fortunately, this is usually very easy to correct, and the results can happen quickly in some cases. When I am not feeling motivated, I will assess my hormone levels and see if there is an imbalance. If so, I take a supplement to address that imbalance and can feel a literal change in motivation within the hour.
When balancing hormones, what I hear is that these women “feel like themselves again.”
