Bioidenticals – When Things Go Wrong
In the last blog, I discussed when the hormonal system is imbalanced by bioidentical hormones. In many women this does not happen. What you want to look for is after 3 months of being on these substances, do you start to feel worse.
Did hormonal symptoms appear from the 3 to 5 month period? Did anxiety or depression occur after 3 months of taking these substances?
Psychiatric Medications for Hormonal Imbalances
The number one caution in this situation is to medicate a women with SSRI’s or anti-anxiety medications from hormonal imbalances caused by bioidentical hormones or hormone therapy. This makes the clinical picture much more complex. Though these medications may help with the anxiety and depression, it does not correct the cause of the biology or physiology of the body.
The first step to address the hormonal imbalance is to pull the excess hormones out of the body. Next, the nervous system and hormonal system need to be regulated. Each person needs individualized strategies for this process.
Resolving the Dysregulation of Bioidenticals Hormones:
Unfortunately correcting the dysregulation of the hormonal system is not a common practice or knowledge for most doctors. Since the new imbalance problem is usually not diagnosed, most women are put on more bioidentical hormones or psychiatric medications.
Though this is a complex process and may take months to undo, in many cases it can be resolved. If psychiatric medications are now part of the clinical picture then additional time and sessions will be needed to help the body get back into balance.
